Maulatanvally, Co Cork

Last weekend I visited three stone circles in County Cork. The first was at Maulatanvally, a fifteen minute drive south of Dunmanway, and located at the back of a field behind a poultry farm.

Seven stones survive from the original circle, which might once have numbered eleven. The stones range in height from 30cm to 140cm.

Inside the circle sits this quartz stone.

The main axis is on a northeast/southwest orientation, and like several other stone circles in County Cork, the diameter here is about 9.5m.
